Dear BAMIT Community,
We are delighted to share the exciting news that Institute Professor and MIT Executive Vice Provost Paula Hammond ’84, PhD ’93 has been named Dean of the School of Engineering, effective January 16.
As many of you know, Dr. Hammond has been an engaged champion for our community and an active participant in BAMIT programming. Many may also remember that she previously served in BAMIT leadership roles as a director and clerk. You might also know her as classmate, a fellow Course 10-er, or a member of Delta Sigma Theta, among her many affiliations at MIT.
Following the announcement, Institute Provost Anantha Chandrakasan said:
“Paula is a scholar of extraordinary distinction. It is hard to overstate the value of the broad contributions she has made in her field, which have significantly expanded the frontiers of knowledge.
Any one of her many achievements could stand as the cornerstone of an outstanding academic career. In addition, her investment in mentoring the next generation of scholars and building community is unparalleled.”
We, too, celebrate and applaud the selection of Dr. Hammond and thank her for her commitment to MIT and the development of students.
