Chocolate City 50th Reunion

During the last weekend of September, an MIT milestone was celebrated. Over 110 alumni and current members of the Chocolate City living group in New House returned to MIT’s campus to attend the Chocolate City 50th Reunion and celebrate 50 years of brotherhood and service to the MIT and global community.

The weekend began on Friday evening September 26th with a Welcome Reception at BRED in Kendall Square. CC alumni and current students were able to reminisce about old times and the future to come over drinks and food.

The reunion continued on Saturday morning with a State of the House Brunch in Walker Memorial. The objective was to lay down the foundations for the next 50 years and beyond. They discussed how to push the brotherhood forward through focused discussion and workshopping and the result was lots of good ideas.

The highlight of Saturday was the Chocolate City 50th Reunion Gala held at the MIT Media Lab. Chocolate City brothers and their guests were dressed up for the festivities. The program began with opening remarks by Stephon Henry-Rerrie, CC’19, and “Chocolate City Through the Years,” a multimedia tribute to 50 years of brotherhood, followed by closing reflections. The keynote address was given by Colin Webb, CC’18, and awards were presented to recognize excellence and service to the greater MIT and global community. Informal recognition was also paid to members of the 1975 founding residents of Chocolate City and housemaster Wesley Harris.

Sunday morning began with an informal Networking Session over coffee and pastries in MIT Lobby 13. In the afternoon CC brothers went to the renovated New House for a CC House tour. Instead of walking up three or more flights of stairs in house 1, older alums were surprised to take an elevator to see the new CC on the western stretch of the 5th floor. The alumni were proud to see that CC still thrives, 34 brothers strong, who are leaders on campus, who maintain high academic averages, and still host epic social events (😊). The high standard of excellence continues! The afternoon concluded with a BarbeCCue by Walker Memorial.
