2025 Tech Reunions

If you haven't been to Tech Reunions, you should certainly plan to. It's a great time to reconnect with your classmates. Whether it's your 5th or 45th it is a wonderful experience.

If it's your 50th, it's an emotional experience to lead the processional in your red jackets to graduation.

The Class of 75 planned a dinner to celebrate and spend time with old friends. Our own Eve Higginbotham-Williams '75 did a Tim Talk on women at MIT. You can view the talk here.

In addition to various technical talks, research and fun tours of MIT and Boston this year, the Multicultural Fest included entertainment from Kelvin Frazier ‘15 and the MastaAdonis Project as well as culinary delights.

Sean Sutherland '00 performed a captivating piano recital of Bach, Chopin, Ravel and Bontemps.

The weekend was capped off with music and dancing at the Toast to the Tech celebration of 150 years of the Alumni Association.

BAMIT hosts a reception for all Black Alumni on campus. This year it was attended by dozens of alumni. See the video here where each person introduced themselves. We are quite an impressive bunch!

If you'd like to organize an event for your class, contact [email protected] and we can help with contacting your class.

BAMIT in South Africa 2025

Our journey began in Cape Town with a warm orientation dinner at the Cullinan Hotel, followed by visits to iconic sites like Table Mountain, District Six, and Bo-Kaap. We explored the city’s rich history and its role in South Africa’s development. At Stellenbosch University, we learned about the legacy of Apartheid and the challenges faced by students from townships. Touring the University of Western Cape and Tygerberg Hospital deepened our understanding of educational transformation and healthcare disparities.

In Langa township, we engaged with local culture through music, dance, and community initiatives. Our guide shared powerful stories of resistance, pride, and forced removals that shaped South Africa’s townships. At Parliament, we learned about the country’s evolving government and participated in a youth workshop at Eternal Flame Church, where we heard firsthand accounts of unemployment and social challenges. We capped off our Cape Town experience with a vibrant dinner at Gold Restaurant and a scenic tour of Cape Point and Boulder's Beach.

Next, we traveled to Johannesburg, dining in Nelson Mandela Square before visiting the Apartheid Museum and Soweto township. Highlights included Regina Mundi Church, the homes of Mandela and Tutu, and the site of Hector Pieterson’s tragic death during the 1976 uprising. We then journeyed to Kruger National Park for thrilling safaris, massages, and breathtaking views of wildlife and the Limpopo Mountains.

Our final leg took us to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, where we marveled at the misty grandeur of “The Smoke That Thunders,” explored the historic bridge, and cruised the Zambezi River at sunset. In Botswana’s Chobe National Park, we enjoyed boat and land safaris, spotting crocodiles, hippos, and lions. After a lively buffet dinner back in Zimbabwe, we concluded our unforgettable tour and returned home via Johannesburg.

Exciting news: planning is underway for BAMIT’s next unforgettable journey—this time to Cuba in July 2026! Registration details will be announced soon—so stay tuned and be ready to secure your spot.
